Thursday July 9, Day 6 - Beaubien

Day 6 was sunny. We hiked to Phillips Junction where we picked up two days of food and ate breakfast. We resupplied ourselves at the trading post and hiked up the hill to the staff camp at Beaubien where we would be staying for two nights. We setup our tents and had lunch. Philmont is a working cattle ranch and the herd had been moved from the plains to Beaubien because of the past dry weather. To get to the chuckwagon or the horses, you walked a trail that cuts right through the middle of the herd. They sometimes even walk up the meadow near the camp sites in the morning.

In the afternoon we did our trail conservation work on the trail we hiked in from PJ on. There were showers at Beaubien which the advisors headed to after the conservation work. This shower gave new meaning to the term "freezing" shower. Rich had Clark holding his side from the sounds he was making. Is that an icicle we saw hanging from your nose, Rich?

It tried to rain during our chuckwagon dinner but we wouldn't let it. It was really good and it was all you could eat because they made more than enough.
