Monday July 6, Day 3 - Cypher's Mine

First thing in the morning, an Elk went by the tent heading down toward the stream. We also heard coyotes the day before and this day. We packed up and had breakfast watching the sunrise in the meadow that we found yesterday during our side hike. We continued on to Cypher's Mine staff camp where we were welcomed with drinks and a list of their programs which included a mine tour, black smithing where our crew made a J hook, and panning for gold which we skipped. Curt joined us on the mine tour and he knocked off our hats when we were mucking in the dark.

Cypher's featured a cut your own wood hot shower and when I arrived, someone (sister crew?) had started it up. It takes about an hour to heat up the water and it was ready. I think that was my first not too hot not too cold shower in some time. I did some wash there, but it didn't dry because it was too late in the day.

While we were cooking dinner, 3 small deer joined us for dinner. Actually, they found the salt on the rock that we had used earlier in the day. Also during dinner time, Adam challenged Curt in a game of hand slaps. First quote of the day from Curt, "I own you, Adam."

After dinner, Curt covered the wilderness pledge and later the staff at Cypher's held a "stomp" with guitars, base, and voices. It was held in Cypher's old house, which was really small and there were quite a few crews in there that night, some of them were later in their treks so the house didn't smell to good by the end of the stomp.

Second Curt quote of the day: It's not where you're going, it's where you are.
