We got up early to beat the sun since the valley can get hot quickly. Our sister crew was already gone for half an hour by the time we left. Adam and one of the advisers had tipped them off about not eating breakfast in camp. We caught up with our sister crew going up the side of Uracca Mesa. We slowed up to let them stay ahead. This would be their first (and last) time they were ahead of us on the trail. When we got to the top, they were eating breakfast. They made some remarks about beating us to the top, but everyone in our crew politely said nothing. We hiked off the side and also ate breakfast and took in the view of the valley and plains of New Abreau where we had just come from. The cantina is located in the upper right corner of the grass and the key hole rocks can be seen on the ridge in the distance.
We finished breakfast and hiked past our sister crew across the mesa and down the other side to Uraca camp. Their program included a challenge course that crew 1 did very well on. The picture shows the one where everyone had to go over the wall. Two guys could stay on top. Once you're over, if you are not on top, you cannot help those that have not gone over yet. The tricky part was getting the last person over. The last challenge presented the most difficulty perhaps because everyone was over confident. In the process, several boys "fell in the river" and "sustained injuries" like being "blinded" (blind folded) or "crippled" (No use of feet permitted).
Today's quote from Jessie, the challenge course staff person: I have nothing negative to say about this challenge, but you sure have funny names for each other. (Moron, freak, and some I can't mention here.)
After the challenge course, we setup our tarp and ate lunch while we waited for a thunder storm to pass. After lunch, we set up the tents. In the evening, there was a great camp fire.
Today's quote from Justin: Daylight come and I wanna go home. Tally man, tally me bananas. Same as yesterday's.
